I miss how things were

You're missing something that used to feel like home, and that ache is really just love with nowhere to go right now. Longing for how things were doesn't mean you're stuck; it means something good was real enough to leave a mark. It's okay to grieve a version of your life even while you keep living this one. You don't have to be over it to be okay; missing it can take as long as it takes.

Almost everyone has something they miss, a place, a person, a season of life, a version of things that felt safer or fuller than the present. That longing is not a sign you are stuck in the past. It is evidence that something mattered to you, that a part of your life was good enough to be worth missing. We do not miss what meant nothing. We miss what was real, and that is a tender thing, not a weakness.

You do not have to stop missing it to be okay. You can hold what you miss in one hand and still live your life with the other. Grief for a version of life that is gone is allowed to take as long as it takes, and there is no correct pace for it. Be gentle with the part of you that misses. It is the part of you that loves well. And it can miss the old days while still making a place for new ones. Both of those things can be true at once, and both are okay.

Read one, sit with it, and draw as many more as you need.

I miss how things were

Missing how things were is just love that outlived the moment it was made for. You can still smell that kitchen, hear that laugh, feel the weight of a door that no longer opens. The ache is proof that something back there was genuinely good.
