I keep comparing myself

You keep holding your insides up against everyone else's outsides, and it's a contest no one could ever win. Comparison takes your real, whole life and shrinks it next to someone's carefully chosen highlights. The people you envy are fighting battles you will never see, just as you are. You were never meant to be a copy of anyone; there's no one else who could be you, and that is not a small thing.

Comparing ourselves to others is one of the most automatic and most painful habits there is. It takes the messy, true, whole picture of our own lives and holds it next to the carefully selected highlights of someone else's, then tells us we are coming up short. It is a rigged contest, and it makes everyone feel like they are losing. The people we measure ourselves against are almost always fighting their own unseen battles, struggling and doubting just as we do.

There is exactly one person who can live your life, bring your particular gifts, and be the you your people know. That is not arrogance. It is simply the shape of a life that only you can fill. Letting go of comparison is not about being better than others. It is about returning your attention to your own becoming. You do not need to outshine anyone. You only need to be, fully, exactly who you are, and that is the whole point of you.

Read one, sit with it, and draw as many more as you need.

Not Enough

I keep comparing myself

The comparing never stops at one person. It just moves to the next, and the next, until you have measured yourself against a crowd that does not even know you exist.
