My mind won't slow down

Your thoughts are moving faster than you can follow, and trying to outrun them only winds the spring tighter. A racing mind is usually a mind that has been working very hard to keep you safe. You are not broken for being unable to simply think your way to calm. You don't have to slow the thoughts down to be okay in this exact second. You only have to be here.

Almost everyone has had a night or a day when the mind simply will not settle, when one worry hands off to the next like a relay race that never ends. That churning is not a sign something is wrong with you. It is often just a mind doing what it has been doing for a long time: trying to get ahead of every possible problem so that none can surprise you. That is a lot of work, and it is work you have been doing alone.

You do not have to win the argument with your thoughts to find a moment of peace. You only have to take one breath that is not about the worry, then another. Bring your attention to the weight of your own hands, or your feet on the floor. That is the present, and in it, right now, you are okay. The thoughts can keep running if they need to. You do not have to run with them. You can rest in this one small moment, and it is enough.

Read one, sit with it, and draw as many more as you need.

My mind won't slow down

Your mind is trying to protect you from something that isn't here yet. You are safe in this exact moment. Feel the cool floor under your feet, the solid weight of your body in the chair. You're here. You're okay.
